Spectacular Holiday Tables
by Cynthea Cameron
The winter holiday season is always a wonderful excuse for fun and frolic. Regardless of the beliefs, celebrations and traditions you keep, it is the perfect time to surround yourself with friends and family and make merry.
Food and drink go naturally with gatherings and celebrations. You'll want to plan some hearty warming meals and tasty beverages. A spectacular holiday table can be the crowning point of the celebration.
One Easy Way to Set the Mood for the Winter Holidays is to Decorate With Evergreens
Evergreens, with their enticing aroma and graceful beauty are the perfect accompaniment to your holiday decorations. Their use at the earliest winter festivals dates back thousands of years. Once thought to have power over death (because they never withered and always stayed green), evergreens emerged as a powerful symbol to defeat the death of winter and urge the rebirth of the sun. Bright red Holly berries braving the foulest winter weather emerging amidst the plant's shiny green leaves are another powerful talisman of rebirth - a symbol to courageously face the dark clutches of old man winter while awaiting the coming season of light.
You Can Create a Stunning Period Table With Pewter Ware
Pewter dishware and serving pieces lend a period mood to the table for your holiday feasts. We created a festive look by placing a 'tapestry' look throw over the table and adding pewter place settings and goblets. Then we added a few more pewter serving pieces, a candelabrum and twined some evergreen across the center of the table. Poinsettias and a few strings of faux pearl and ruby baubles were the finishing touches. This is a table even the grumpiest scrooge couldn't pass up!
Pewter beckons with an allure all its own. More inviting than silver, and certainly more practical, pewter is just as at home in an elegant setting as a casual one. Look for good quality, food grade pewter. It will not chip, crack, rust or peel. It's very durable and is a lasting treasure. You can find a large variety of pieces and styles. Due to its standard color, mixing and matching lends itself well to pewter. You might consider a simple style place setting punctuated with unique or specialized serving pieces creating your own custom collection.
